She is portrayed by Naomi Watts. Rachel must investigate the life of Samara Morgan the son of her in The Ring Two. Ruth Rachel's sister has asked Rachel to look into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Katie's sudden death. Rachel discovers that Katie was healthy , and that she found Katie's disfigured body inside the closet. Katie's family members tell Rachel about the legend behind the cursed videotape , and also that Becca Katie's best friend was confined after Katie's death. Katie's boyfriend, and two of her best friends, all died in mysterious accidents that happened in the same evening at 10:30 pm. Rachel is on her way from Shelter Mountain Inn to Cabin 12 where Katie along with her companions watched the videotape that was cursed. Rachel discovers the tape and plays it. The phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel seeks assistance from her ex-boyfriend Noah Clay, a video analyst. Rachel finds out later that Aidan (her son who is with Noah) watched the tape and informed her that he believed what she said. Rachel researches the lighthouse from the tape and discovers that it was on Moesko Island, the home of a slain horse breeder known as Anna Morgan, who appeared on the videotape that was cursed. Rachel discovered that Anna had an adopted son named Samara who could burn disturbing images into the bodies and minds of people, animals, and objects. Rachel is forced to flee Anna's widower Richard after she starts asking questions about Samara.
