Audra Mcdonald is a standout in the breadth of her talent and her versatility as a singer and actor. She was the recipient of record-breaking 6 Tony Awards two Grammy Awards and one Emmy Award in 2015 she was ranked among Time magazine's 100 most influential people. She also received the National Medal of Art, which is America's highest award for accomplishment in the arts--from the President Barack Obama. With a stunning soprano and an incomparable gift of telling the truth in a dramatic manner She is equally at home on Broadway and the opera scene as she is in her role in television and film. As well as the stage roles, McDonald has established a successful career which is a major concert and record-making career. She performs regularly at world-class places. McDonald was born in Fresno California, where she was surrounded by a large family full of musicians. At the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as the classical singer. After graduating, she was awarded her debut Tony Award for Best Performance of a Featured Actress a Musical for Carousel at Lincoln Center Theater (1994). Over the next four years, she also was awarded two Tony Awards under the featured actress category. These were in recognition of her Broadway performances of Terrence McGally's plays Master Class and Ragtime. She won his fourth Tony in 2004 when she starred alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun as well as at the end of 2012. In 2012, she won five Tonys and her first in the category of lead actress due to her performance in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess in the lead role. In 2014, the Tony Awards most-decorated performer in 2014 was Billie Holiday, who she played in Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill. It's exactly the role she portrayed in her 2017 West End London debut for which she was considered for nomination to an Olivier Award. In addition to setting the record for most competitive wins by an actor she was also the first actor to be awarded the award in all four acting categories. After that, in 1999, she costarred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber on the Disney/ABC television version of Annie. Then, in 2000, she appeared as an recurring role on the NBC show Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald, who was awarded an Emmy Award nomination in 1999, for her role in the HBO adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning film Wit with Emma Thompson, made her return to the network in 2003 to star in the drama about politics Mister Sterling. The film was created by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. Then, in the beginning of 2006, she joined the cast of the show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the following season, she played the role of a regular on the NBC television show Kidnapped. McDonald's performance in the HBO production Lady Day At Emerson Bar Restaurant earned her a four-time Emmy nomination in 2016. She also appeared in 2021 when she was a co-star in a telecast with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale as part of The Bite, a pandemic drama co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. McDonald initially played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in the CBS law-and-order drama The Good Wife, in the year 2009. In 2018 she reprised her role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular in the series. The performance earned her three Critics Choice Award Nominations. She guest stars as a guest star in Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
